The new certificate follows an earlier awards earned by HUBER+SUHNER for its Railway Wire+Cable product unit. IRIS is the quality standard for the railway industry. Developed by UNIFE, the Independent Association of European Railway Industries, and supported by system integrators, equipment manufacturers and operators like Bombardier Transportation, Siemens Transportation System, Alstom Transport and Ansaldo Breda. IRIS is an internationally recognized standard for the evaluation of railway industry management systems.
“HUBER+SUHNER’s activities in the rail sector have enjoyed rapid growth in recent years. As a leader in providing electrical interconnectivity to the railway market it was expected by our key customers that we gain accreditation to IRIS. We understand that suppliers not meeting this requirement will be considered as “NOT preferred supplier” in new contracts,” said Alun Thomas, head of HUBER+SUHNER Railway Product unit. “Achieving IRIS certification in cable production and cable systems shows HUBER+SUHNER’s commitment to the railway industry in providing quality products and services to our customers.”
The Swiss Association for Quality and Management Systems (SQS) carried out their audit on behalf of the UNIFE contracted DQS certification body, particularly on the processes in the area of management processes, tender management, customer satisfaction, purchasing, project management, production and service provision pertaining to current rail projects or product reliability. “HUBER+SUHNER AG has provided clear evidence during the IRIS audit that all required processes are correctly implemented”, confirmed SQS auditor Daniel Taddeo when handing over the certificate.
